11. Consignment ~ RG ~ Very nice WWII Ka-Bar U.S.N. MKII. Blade has been removed and plated very nicely. It does not appear to have been sharpened since being plated but does show having had a bit of “bellying” before being take apart and plated…the Ka-Bar identity has been peened off of the guard, but the U.S.N. MK2 remains. The handle has been replaced without any grooves. The pommel was removed by the pin—and reassembled with the same pin. (some of these have been observed without the pin—and the tang peened onto the pommel.) I can understand why the Ka-Bar designation was obliterated when it was modified from the original configuration…there is a small spot of corrosion on the ricasso on both sides where it meets the guard. Military marking remains on the guard and the plastic scabbard. Condition overall is very good plus. Guard handle and pommel are tight. A tough knife to find in this condition. $310 http://www.militaryknives.bizland.com/8776.JPG http://www.militaryknives.bizland.com/8777.JPG http://www.militaryknives.bizland.com/8778.JPG http://www.militaryknives.bizland.com/8779.JPG http://www.militaryknives.bizland.com/8780.JPG http://www.militaryknives.bizland.com/8781.JPG http://www.militaryknives.bizland.com/8782.JPG http://www.militaryknives.bizland.com/8783.JPG

This additional information came from fellow collector Kerry Gordon. (thanks Kerry) I just thought that you might like to know that you weren't the only one ever caught with one of these - not only do I have the French version but I also have one with the Belgian Rampant Lion stamped into the hilt. The real give away with these is that the blade tang doesn't run all the way through the pommel nut, there's about two threads empty at the end of the nut. The other thing is that the brass pommel nuts are painted with gloss black paint rather than blackened. Someone spent a lot of time and effort on these, the blades are tinned under the blackening and the hilts are blackened brass that is reasonable well checkered.
