Back in 1998, American Actor Wesley Snipes was working with financial advisor Kenneth Starr, as someone of his considerable wealth should do. However, unbeknownst to Snipes, Starr had been ripping off his other clients for decades.
Snipes then sought an independent review of his finances which brought up concerns regarding his tax status. Like any responsible individual, Snipes went to the IRS with his questions. Unfortunately, things took a turn for the worse when the IRS then turned around and accused him of tax evasion after he’s paid millions of dollars in taxes throughout his career.
To make a long story short, Snipes retained legal representation just weeks before the start of his trial and still managed to pull off a win.
The odds were against him with an all-white jury in a town known for its issues with race, but his team of attorneys were able to establish that not only had Snipes not committed tax fraud, but also that the IRS had employees shredding important documents that clearly demonstrated Snipes’ innocence.
