Welcome to the Virtual Museum of African Diaspora.

The Mission
The mission of the museum is to collect significant examples of art and cultures from Africa and its Diaspora. Of particular interest is the impact people of African descent have had shaping the life and culture of the Americas. By displaying the achievements of these great cultures we hope to better educate the students of the University as well as the larger community. The museum will help secure the University as a place of culture and research.

The VMAD is currently in its infancy with only a sampling of its collection available. If the project receives approval more items and additional educational components will be added.

Goals
The short-term goal is to create an educational and interesting web-based exhibition of the contributions of Africans and African-Americans.

The long-term goal is to use VMAD to spur interest in finding funding to create a “brick and mortar” museum at the University with the objects from the Virtual Museum of African Diaspora serving as the nucleus of the collection. It is hoped that this creation will inspire further donations from the community.
