Welcome

to The Shepherd's Center

We provide community connection, social opportunities, and learning classes to the 55+ set in Clay County, We are living life and loving it!

We’re a group of active, caring seniors who love being social, learning new things, making friends, and getting the most out of life!  Our members come from Orange Park, Fleming Island, Middleburg, Lake Asbury, Oakleaf, Mandarin, the Westside and other areas of Northeast Florida.

Our mission is to  improve the lives of older adults by improving their quality of life through educational classes and events. We offer a great variety of classes and events that reach members, intellectually, physically, socially, and spiritually.

SCOOP provides a large number and great variety of seasonal classes – Adventures in Learning – and social opportunities at extremely reasonable (most under $50) fees. We invite you to come see what it’s all about – and bring your friends!

Group classes are held in two Clay County locations: Orange Park on Mondays, and Fleming Island on Thursdays. We also offer group Bridge games in Orange Park on Tuesdays, online classes, and occasional special one-time events.

The Shepherd’s Center also holds an annual senior recognition event – The Golden Years Gala. Held every May, the Gala recognizes and celebrates individuals that are spending their senior years giving back to their community in a positive, uplifting way. Learn more about the Gala here.

Our organization was founded on the ideal of bringing together individuals from all walks of life to celebrate the joys of aging. This commitment fosters a culture where meaningful connections to each other, to our communities, and to the world may occur.  We promote a culture where we welcome any participant regardless of race, color, ancestry, religion, sex, national origin, sexual orientation, age, citizenship, marital status, disability, gender identity, or Veteran status. I enjoyed myself from the very first class I took. Our teachers make everything interesting. I have been able to keep my spirits up and not dwell on the negative, thanks to the Shepherd’s Center.

Cured my Loneliness
,,

I retired at the end of 2015 from a job that I loved. I was feeling lost and lonely without any structure to fill my days. I decided to give the Shepherd’s Center a try. I am so glad I did.

An Enjoyable Day
,,

Love the “Current Events” class, it alerts me to candidates and their qualifications, news about science and medical advances. My classmates are fun people, easy to talk with – it makes my time at SCOOP an enjoyable day.
