Johnny Ramone’s Mosrite guitar is up for auction at RR Auction. The auction ends on September 25th, 2021. As of this writing, the top bid is $275,000.
I like to see a guitar with legitimate wear and tear. Is that duct tape on the tailpiece?
The auction site says Johnny purchased this guitar in 1977. Before that, he had a blue Mosrite, which got stolen in 1977. Here’s Johnny on purchasing his first Mosrite:
“I bought my guitar at Manny’s on Forty-eighth Street and Broadway, on January 23, 1974 … Mine cost fifty dollars … I got the cheap one. The Ventures and Sonic Smith from the MC5 both used a Mosrite. Those were pretty good references.”

“Buying the cheap one” really evokes the original Punk spirit. Not so sure about about spending $275,000 for one.
So far I’ve been able to avoid clicking on any of those “British guitar player reacts” youtube videos.
Here’s an SFT demo by Howard at Catalinbread from five years ago. This video shows the older design. The new design looks better, in my opinion.
I probably shouldn’t judge an effect by its case, but I like the new artwork for the Catalinbread SFT effect. Actually, this effect is new to me, but I like what I hear in the various youtube demos.
Wayne Kramer:
“We’re going to demonstrate the proper and correct and official way to play the guitar parts on the MC5’s infamous recording of ‘Kick Out the Jams’”
The best arrangements are simple, yet effective.
