I recenly served as the Vice President of Information Technology and Security Operations for AccelerEd, LLC providing all information technology services for the University of Maryland Global Campus (UMGC); one of the largest online universities in the United States serving over 90,000 students. I managed all of AccelerEd's/UMGC's global IT infrastructure, including cloud and server engineering, networking, desktop engineering, help desk, telephony, as well as security operations and risk compliance groups. My responsibility covered all such operations across the US, Europe, and Asia.

I also own and operate Deductive Data, a consulting firm which works with Higher Education Institution's the likes of University of Maryland Global Campus, Macomb Community College, and George Mason University on "C" level initiatives such as enterprise security ranging from security policy creation and framework compliance to remediation of system vulnerability issues. The range of services provided by Deductive Data can best be characterized as enterprise virtual CIO/CISO services incorporating a full service security practice.

I recently served as Vice President and Chief Information Officer for Schoolcraft College in Livonia, Michigan where I initially designed a 150 rack data center, and then managed a complete overhaul of the entire enterprise IT infrastructure. I spear-headed an expansion of the enterprise security portfolio, implemented a complete virtualization of the campus server/storage infrastructure, and embarked on replacing 2500 PCs with Virtual Desktops. I created and taught both a Data Center Design and a Data Center Operations Course. I have extensive experience in IT Management, Software Development Process, Enterprise Application Architecture, IT Infrastructure Design and Management, and Enterprise, Commercial and Co-location Hosting. Over my career I have worked with industry partners to create innovative new products to advance technology and aid in competitive advantage. See my Publications page.

For just over 6 years I provided technical management of a high density 20,000 sq. ft. data center, Liberty Center One, built in 2008. In December of 2010 we completed a successful SAS 70 Type II analysis of that facility with Plante Moran without the need of a pre-assessment or Type I analysis. Subsequent to that we upgraded our audit level to SSAE16 SOC2 level in 2012-13.

In 2006 I guided Web Elite to a CMMI Level 3 rating. CMMI is Carnegie Mellon University Software Engineering Institute Capability Maturity Model Integration Certification; somewhat like ISO 9000 for software companies. The lead appraiser commented that the process was "the nearest to a perfect appraisal as [he] had ever participated in to date."

My initial assignment at Web Elite was to design and manage implementation of a complete business software infrastructure for a major OEM who was struggling in the electric vehicle space because of CARB compliance.(Clean Air Research Board; a federal agency) These over twenty applications ranged from ZEV (Zero Emission Vehicle) customer prospecting, solicitation, and order fulfillment, to vehicle tracking/management, remote field data gathering, and program research reporting systems. Applications were operated nation-wide on a centralized Web-based framework giving complete transparency to program management.

I have performed expert witness consulting with regard to simulation software and experimental testing in product disputes. And I have also served as a subject matter researcher for an internet based financial management and investment firm.

While serving as a Corporate Officer and Vice President of Product Development for Mechanical Dynamics, Inc. I led a team of Engineers and IT professionals in a 3 week situation analysis of the product development processes at BMW in Munich, Germany. I was a member of MDI's senior management team that took this privately held, high technology software firm through a successful IPO in the mid 1990s.

In the late 80's and early 90's my assignments allowed me to travel extensively and become internationally published as I represented companies in industry forums, strategic customer visits and overseas office management.

I spent my early years at Schlumberger CAD/CAM Division as an Engineering Manager where I was awarded a US patent, with others, for new work in the area of Linkage Synthesis. Prior to that I spent 5 years at Pontiac Motor Division of General Motors, Inc. reaching the position of Senior Project Engineer in engineering analysis and attaining certification as a licensed Professional Engineer (PE).

Completed a Doctorate in Community College Leadership at Ferris State University (FSU) in May of 2021. I hold a M.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) where I attended as a GM Fellow, and a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Michigan Technological University (MTU).
