What is B-Copy?

B-COPY, the Barbados Copyright Agency Inc., is a collective management organisation and Barbados’ national Reproduction Rights Organization (RRO). Mo

A non-profit organisation, B-COPY’s formation in March 2008 was spearheaded by a national taskforce of authors and publishers. Its role is to manage the reproduction rights of creators and publishers of materials published in printed and electronic form.

Through its licences, B-COPY provides a centralised, easy and affordable mechanism through which users have access to, and can legally reproduce extracts of published copyright material. The proceeds from licences are distributed to copyright holders after deduction of administrative costs.

B-COPY therefore acts as a bridge between creators and users of copyright material, offering an efficient and convenient service whereby society can benefit from the works of creators while respecting copyright and complying with the Barbados Copyright Act (1998).

The RRO Network

B-COPY is a full member of the International Federation of Reproduction Rights Organisations (IFRRO), an international network of RROs and associated organisations, and of four RROs in the region: the Jamaican Copyright Licensing Agency (JAMCOPY), TTRRO in Trinidad and Tobago, and ECRRO, which serves the Eastern Caribbean.

B-COPY receives technical and financial support from Canada’s Access Copyright acting on behalf of the International Federation of Reproduction Rights Organisations (IFRRO), as well as from its regional mentor, JAMCOPY.

Protection for the works of B-COPY’s affiliated copyright holders extends outside of Barbados as a result of the bilateral agreements with other RROs.
