What is the Orange County Math Council?

The Orange County Math Council is a non-profit association for math educators in Orange County, CA. It is a local affiliate of the California Math Council- South, which is an affiliate of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics. OCMC, as Orange County Math Council is frequently referred to, generally hosts three events per year: a Math Symposium in the spring, Math Field Day at the end of the school year, and an event in the fall. Throughout the year, they also help to support math educators in networking with one another and learning from each other. OCMC is an organization committed to math excellence for our students county-wide.

Our Mission

The Orange County Math Council is established for the purpose of improving the teaching of mathematics in all educational institutions within our county. The methods of accomplishing this shall include the study of mathematics for its own sake, the improvement of relations between mathematics teachers, administrators, and the public, and the study of curriculum and methods for teaching mathematics.

Who are the OCMC Board Members?

Our President, Lindsey Gatfield, is currently an Elementary Math Coordinator at a county office. Lindsey was a committee member for the 2023 CA Math Framework. She also served as a board member for NCSM as the Local Arrangements Chair for the 2022 NCSM Conference. This is Lindsey's second term as OCMC's President.

Our Vice President, Nancy Qushair, is a middle school math teacher, department chair, and Director of Academic Prep. This is Nancy's first term as OCMC's Vice President.

Our Secretary, Monique Harrison, is an Assistant Principal of Instruction and Inclusion. This is Monique's first term as OCMC's Secretary.

Our Treasurer, Suzanne Bucaro, is an elementary MTSS math TOSA in a K-12 school district. This is Suzanne's first term as OCMC's Treasurer.
