Try Praying is here!

Try Praying is a nationwide (and beyond!) initiative to encourage everyone and anyone to pray.

Did you know that...

• 27 million UK adults pray?
• 10 million pray regularly?
• 1 in 5 people who say they are not religious do pray?

Try Praying is a very simple idea to get people praying. The main instruments for doing this are a small booklet—and you!

Simply obtain one of the little turquoise books from your church or Margins Bookshop, read it first, then pass it on to someone you think might benefit from it. This might be a member of your family, a neighbour, a friend...anyone. Simply offer it as a 'no strings' gift—and then see what happens!

Mark's Pennine Way Challenge

This year In2Out is celebrating its 10th Anniversary. That’s 10 years of offering hope of a better future to over 750 young people as they left prison and returned to their communities across the north of England. It's been a privilege to journey with them.

Looking ahead we want to do more - reaching even more young people leaving different prisons and returning to different geographic areas. In this anniversary year, our aim is to raise £50,000 to help make that goal possible. In May, Mark is hiking the 268-mile Pennine Way in 15 days, with the aim of raising £20,000 towards that total. You can follow his journey by subscribing to his blog here and donate towards his total here.

Mini Praise for younger children

3:00pm Saturday, May 11 at Wetherby Methodist Church

If you've got primary school children, particularly those aged 0-7 years (up to Year 2), why not come along to Wetherby Methodist Church and join in with Mini Praise?

Each session will include singing, musical instruments, stories, prayer and craft activities, and finishing up with a picnic tea in the Link area.

Reflections on the Holy Land

7:00pm, Saturday, May 11 at St Joseph's Church, Wetherby

With the eyes of the world on Israel, Gaza and the rest of Palestine, this is an opportunity to learn more about everyday life in Palestine, principally from the perspectives of those living in the occupied West Bank.

Organised by Annette Mitchell and Phil Hopkins from St Joseph's Church, the evening will be led by David Arblaster, a deacon of the Diocese based at St Aelred's in Harrogate, who is the Diocesan Co-ordinator of the Friends of the Holy Land; David will provide his observations of life there in general.

Professor Phil Hopkins a member of the parish here at St Joseph's and a Trustee of the Bethlehem Care and Hospice Trust, will talk about setting up and delivering the first palliative care service in Palestine and the context of healthcare in the West Bank, that has led to the huge burden of late-stage cancer in Bethlehem.

Admission to this event is free, and a light supper will be provided.

Community Prayers

9:00am Wednesday May 1, at Margins Bookshop, Church Street
and the first Wednesday of every month

Everyone is invited to join us in prayer for about half an hour to lift up to the Lord our community and its people, churches, businesses, activities, and no doubt we shall be praying for other things that are on our hearts, too.

Do come along if you can... everyone is welcome.
