  • From time to time my amber engine light flashes - normally on the motorway when the engine has been under load and then I lift off the throttle slightly. As soon as I hit the throttle again, the light stops flashing.
I've checked numerous times - as has my MG specialist mechanic - and there are no codes to be found.
I have long suspected it's connected to emissions, but with no codes to follow, haven't done anything about it, as it's not stopped Roxy passing her MOT's.
    Suggestions?

Sorry to revive such an old thread, but I've just had this exact issue happen to me (and even passed MOT a few months ago). I was driving for roughly an hour in hot weather, and after leaving the motorway and going about 40mph the light began to flash, but within about 30 seconds went out.

Pulled over in a panic and drove straight back home, weirdly the light never came back on. I've since done 2 spirited drives and again nothing.

If you like to use Haynes manuals you can use a combination of the Rover 200/25/ZR for the engine and gearbox and the Austin Metro/Rover 100 for a guide to most of the rest of the car.

For a paper copy of the workshop manual for your 2006 MG TF, you might want to check out sites like eBay or Amazon. Sometimes you can find them on specialized car manual websites too. Another option is to join MG enthusiast forums or clubs where members might be able to point you in the right direction.

  • That sounds like quite the adventure with the MGs! It's great to hear you're enjoying the new MG TF 135, even if the tire situation is a bit of a mixed bag. Have you considered upgrading to a more consistent set of tires for better handling?

Diagnose Faults

Own a Rover, MG, Series One Elise or K series Caterham? Want to fix it yourself?

You can't fix your car if you don't know what's wrong with it. If your car has a fault light on you can read the error codes to narrow down the fault, but only if you have a compatible diagnostic tool.

YOU CAN DO IT IN AN MG

Still!
