80th Annual Awards Banquet

Members took the night off and met at Turf Valley Resort for the 80th Annual Awards Banquet. After dinner and a generous check presentation from Howard County Chief Administrative Officer Brandee Ganz, various awards were bestowed for calendar year 2023.

At 13:02 this afternoon Engine 31 was requested by Carroll County to respond to Sykesville for a reported house fire in the 1600 block of Heather Heights Road. Engine 31's crew arrived on scene after units from Carroll County's Sykesville Freedom District Fire Department and deployed a 400 foot attack line to the rear of the residence from an adjoining court. Early Morning Collision on I-70

Units were dispatched early this morning for a reported collision with fire on I-70. At 02:42 the tones sounded for a two vehicle accident with a semi truck on fire, alerting units from WFVFD and Station 8. The incident was upgraded when Paramedic 35 arrived on scene on eastbound I-70 just past Marriottsville Road to find a tractor trailer with heavy fire showing from the cab and a pick up truck with ... Starting this Wednesday, April 10 we will be hosting Food Truck Wednesdays! Join us across the street each Wednesday this spring and summer from 4-8 PM for a rotating variety of food trucks.
Please note that this event takes place on Butterfly Court, across Route 99 from the station. No parking or picnicking will be available in the fire station parking lot.

House Fire in West Friendship

Units responded this afternoon for a house fire in West Friendship. At 15:28 WFVFD and surrounding companies were alerted for a reported basement fire in the 2600 block of Wellworth Way. Units arrived to find a two story single family home with smoke showing from side C. Engine 31 encountered heavy smoke in the basement and located the fire in the sub-basement. Born April 21,1961 at Frederick Memorial Hospital, Mickey was a lifelong resident of Howard County. Annual Open House

As we do each year during Fire Prevention Week, members opened the doors of the station to welcome community members to our Open House. This year's theme is "Cooking safety starts with YOU. Pay attention to fire prevention." Cooking fires are the leading cause of home fires and injuries.
