The NCRETAC supports cooperative, cost-effective regional emergency medical and trauma systems development.

Welcome to Northeast Colorado RETAC!

Covering a vast expanse of 17,534 square miles along the northern border of Colorado, our region shares boundaries with Nebraska and Wyoming to the north and Nebraska and Kansas to the east. With an estimated population of 803,157 (2023), the Northeast Colorado RETAC is a vital hub for emergency medical and trauma services across nine counties.

Our consortium includes Jackson, Larimer, Morgan, Logan, Phillips, Sedgwick, Washington, Weld, and Yuma Counties, each contributing to our region’s rich geographic and demographic tapestry. From sparsely populated areas to those experiencing rapid growth, we embrace the diversity that both challenges and strengthens us.

Within our borders, you’ll find a wealth of natural wonders, including one national park, numerous state parks, and the convergence of two interstate highways. Bordering three different states, our location underscores our importance as a crossroads for emergency medical services.

Governed by a board of directors appointed by the Board of County Commissioners in each county, the Northeast Colorado RETAC ensures equal representation and balanced expertise from both the pre-hospital and facility-based sectors. With 18 representatives spanning our nine counties, we strive to uphold the highest standards of care and coordination.

As one of the 11 RETACs designated by the Colorado Revised Statutes, we operate within a framework that mandates regular planning and budgeting cycles. Our mission is clear: to facilitate seamless coordination among counties, agencies, and hospital facilities, driving toward cost-effective planning and goal implementation.

At the heart of our mission is patient care. By fostering collaboration and innovation among emergency medical and trauma system providers, we aim to adapt to evolving challenges efficiently and effectively. As a liaison between care providers and the Colorado Department of Public Health & Environment, we advocate for policies and practices prioritizing patient well-being.

Yet, challenges persist within our region. From regulatory changes to reimbursement complexities, recruitment, retention, and beyond, Northeast Colorado RETAC stands ready to support agencies in navigating these hurdles. Together, we’re committed to steering our community toward ever-improving standards of patient care.
