CAPCOG is an advocate, planner and coordinator for important regional issues in the ten-county Capital Area. It works directly with its member local governments to recognize opportunities for cooperation and eliminate unnecessary duplication in emergency communications, elderly assistance, law enforcement training, criminal justice planning, solid waste reduction, homeland security planning, infrastructure development, transportation planning and economic development.
Programs and projects range in variety of areas from providing training for law enforcement to ensuring the validity of 9-1-1 operations, to helping local governments with grant planning to conducting outreach about regional issues.

Apr 1, 2024CAPCOG consists of more than 90 member governments and organizations that represent the people of its 10-county region — Bastrop, Blanco, Burnet, Caldwell, Fayette, Hays, Lee, Llano, Travis, and Williamson counties. Formed in 1970, it is one of 24 councils of governments in the state of Texas that serves those same communities as an advocate, planner and coordinator of regionalism.
CAPCOG is governed by local elected officials through its General Assembly and Executive Committee. A number of policy and advisory committees assist CAPCOG and its Executive Committee in taking beneficial actions for all in the region.
