Stephen Hargash's talent shows in Saginaw sculpture, mural
Frankenmuth native Stephen Hargash has left a lasting impression in downtown Saginaw.
A special unveiling took place on Tuesday evening, May 21, as Hargash created a mural of Henry Marsh and a sculpture in front of the Dow Events Center entitled “The Spirit of Saginaw.” A large crowd of city dignitaries as well as residents gathered for the momentous occasion under blue skies and warm temperatures.
Both projects were first officially viewed as part of the 2024 Memorial Cup Legacy Project. The 104th annual Memorial Cup Tournament took place May 24 through June 2, culminating with the hometown Saginaw Spirit defeating fellow OHL team London Knights in a razor-close fashion, 4-3.
The mural, which is located on Washington Avenue, under the I-675 overpass, honors Marsh, who was elected the first African American mayor of Saginaw in 1967.
Hargash, an accomplished artist well known in Frankenmuth and surrounding communities, took time to address the projects following the unveiling. .......
