About the book

This book combines two of my favorite passions: design and marketing. Those two domains are like bread and butter; marketing and design need to be in perfect harmony in order to create a good campaign. However, this is harder than it sounds. This book helps us improve commercial designs via tips and examples.

The Blue Lady’s New Look was written by the JKR Design Gazette. JKR stands for ‘Jones Knowles Ritchie’ and it’s a leading UK package design agency based in Camden, North London. Since 2008 they offer a design gazette, produced by creative director Silas Amos. The design gazettes covers various marketing-related topics which they bundled in this book.

The book consists of 52 articles. Every article is one page long, which is perfect for todays digital generation (thanks to Twitter, most people can’t be bothered to read long texts). The real-life examples used in every article make it much easier to understand. Some of you might even have some real-life experience with some of these examples.

Some articles might be a bit far-fetched, but they still offer useful insights. In one way or another, all these design tips can be implemented in your future designs.

The combination of short, informative articles and real-life examples make it hard to stop reading. And if that isn’t enough, every article has a title that makes your curiosity tingling, e.g.:

  • Can bad taste make good branding?
  • Can brands change outfits without tearing the fabric?
  • Are the days of statics graphics numbered?
  • How do you package something which has no form?
