This type of website has a lot of advantages and disadvantages. One of the major advantages is that you can usually choose between various logo designs. Because every designer has a personal idea about the logo, you can get vary different results.
One of the biggest disadvantages is that there can be a lack of quality. The quality of the results depends on the prize of you contest.
Let’s take a look at the LogoMyWay website and the various features it offers:
Contests
This section shows you all the active and past design contests. Here you can find all the information about a contest: the prize, status (accepting entries / judging), the date when the contest was created, the number of entries… Prize amounts generally range from $200 to $1000 depending on the type of design you require.
When you click on a contest, you are redirected the the contest page. Here you’ll find all the information you need in order to create a suitable design. You’ll also be able to view the contest entries. When you hover your mouse over a design, you get a little popup that gives you more information about the designer (name, country and number of contests he has entered/won). When you click on a design, you can see all the designs that were submitted by this artist in this contest. This makes it easier to view subtle changes that were made on the design.
The lower section of the contest pages is reserved for comments. The contest holder and other users can post comments about the designs.
When you want to enter a competition, you have to keep these submission rules in mind:
- No clipart, even if you own the rights
- 350×280 pixels or (width/height ratio of 1.25:1) in JPG, PNG or GIF format
- Only one logo per upload (multiple designs are encouraged but need to be uploaded seperatly)
- No designer firm watermarks
- No borders around your design
- Neatly centered both horizontally and vertically with spacing all around
- Your design must be created in a vector program such as Adobe Illustrator, and the final files must be delivered in .EPS format.
The final submission rule is very important. It guarantees that the contest holder has a lot of flexibility regarding the print size of the designs.
Portfolio
The portfolio gives you an idea of the results that you can expect. It showcases several entries that were submitted by artists. You can also filter the results by industry.
Designers
This page shows you all the designers that are active on LogoMyWay. You can order the list by name, country, results or number of entries.
My Account
On this page you can edit every aspect of your account and entries. You can edit and withdraw your designs, send private messages to other members and contest holders and you can manage your payment details.
The Forum
LogoMyWay also has a handy forum (still in beta). There are four sections: contest holder discussion, designer discussion, general discussion and updates & announcements. The first two sections are only accessible if you have the appropriate user title.
The only problem is that you can’t edit your post once it has been published. I hope this feature will be added in the future.
How It Works
This section is basically a FAQ. It will tell you everything you need to know about the website. There’s also a Youtube video that shows you how to start a design contest. If you can’t find an answer to your question here, you can always try to contact the owner.
Testimonials
I managed to get two testimonials from LogoMyWay contest holders. Here’s what they have to say about the website:
“I’m so glad I found LogoMyWay! An amazing amount of creativity and work that was put into my logo for just over 200 dollars. At my last company, I paid over $20,000 for my logo!”
“In a few days time, I had several logos I could choose from. I was able to give feedback so I got a logo that really suited my business.”
